The spot Cantinho da Baía is one of those spots that aren’t so special... the surf is not nearly as good as many other spots in the region, when the tide goes low we can even say the surf is "crap" over there. Doesn't hold much size and, let's face it, it is almost always crowded with surf schools, surf camps (from Lisbon to Galiza), "beginners", "long boarder’s", "malibuer's" and all kinds of "new wave wave riding tools" like the trendy paddle boards or the kamikaze kayak surfers, all welcome by the way. The but is that it's such a consistent spot. It works no matter the wind or the swell, there is always something going on and the fact is that on most days if you’re persistent enough you'll catch a few good one worth the effort and the hassle! Yesterday the wind was blowing "nortada" and we're sure there are very few spots in Portugal that would provide rides like the ones above :)

Busy

We know it! A blog should be updated regularly otherwise it's not a blog... but there is a slight problem; the swell does not stop hitting Peniche and we can't avoid being busy surfing the various options available! This day was a bit too much, but nevertheless here's a photo of the lines coming in south of Peniche…

Spring 2009 @ Supertubos, Peniche

This year Supertubos decided to greet the spring with a nearly classic day. This was one of the last photos taken this session, just before the battery went dead. I had no board to go in so I took the opportunity to shoot but with a 400mm without tripod…not the best way to do it pros would say, but good enough to have an idea! This is Jorge Cação a local from Peniche and surely one of the best backhand tube riders in Super T.

Friday March 13th - spring is in the air!

The dawn was a sign of a nice day; a slight breeze from East, a decent 3 feet forecast and a clear blue sky. The morning check on Cantinho da Baía revealed this scenery, a nice day to go out! That is unless you're superstitious…

Acacio "Lélé" Grandela, Secret Spot Peniche

There are some guys that have a synchrony with the ocean like no one else, Lélé is one of them. Local from Baleal, Lélé is a living legend in Peniche; diver, fisherman and top surfer he is a true waterman. On this session on a secret spot somewhere in Peniche, it seamed that only the best waves would come his way, this was one of them...

The Local Boys @ Nazaré

It is said that the people in Nazaré are very religious and have a profound respect for the Ocean. We guess that with such power coming from the depths and showing its fangs just across the road from where you live, most people would feel compelled to some form of religiosity. On this photo the local crew in Nazaré stares at something mighty powerfull.

Getting barreled...

Sometimes it is a bit anoying to shoot from the beach while in the water you could be getting seriously barreled... Supertubes, Peniche Photo: Sandra Stubelvoll, Baleal Surf Camp
