To change the tone, some lecturing… or maybe not

Yes, it’s that time of the year when everyone, including the posh boys and girls that never set foot in Peniche, is comfortable in town and wants to see and be seen… The pro’s are in town, Dane Reynold’s in town, the TV’s are in town, the crowd is in town…

It’s definitely a special moment during the year. We can understand all the hype and some fancy clothes inclusive. We can also understand that some surfers who can hardly make a decent takeoff will be in Lagido barking at some pale faces, pretending to be locals. We do understand that some of that socialite, who on a normal basis despise Peniche and what it represents, suddenly have this overwhelming urge to make the hour drive up here, even if they just hang around the VIP tent adding some extra fat to the wannabe slim figures.

What we don’t understand is that while free surfers and some pro’s at Supertubos are putting on a show like last October 6th these people will still rather do what they usually do…but then again, who cares?

Ladislau from Argentina

Summer is on its way and autumn is arriving. There are some signs in the air and also in the Ocean..Light morning offshore winds and some swell starting to pump..the guys around here are getting ready for the real deal. On this photo Ladislau from Argentina is stretching at Cantinho da Baía.

The spot Cantinho da Baía is one of those spots that aren’t so special... the surf is not nearly as good as many other spots in the region, when the tide goes low we can even say the surf is "crap" over there. Doesn't hold much size and, let's face it, it is almost always crowded with surf schools, surf camps (from Lisbon to Galiza), "beginners", "long boarder’s", "malibuer's" and all kinds of "new wave wave riding tools" like the trendy paddle boards or the kamikaze kayak surfers, all welcome by the way. The but is that it's such a consistent spot. It works no matter the wind or the swell, there is always something going on and the fact is that on most days if you’re persistent enough you'll catch a few good one worth the effort and the hassle! Yesterday the wind was blowing "nortada" and we're sure there are very few spots in Portugal that would provide rides like the ones above :)

Spring 2009 @ Supertubos, Peniche

This year Supertubos decided to greet the spring with a nearly classic day. This was one of the last photos taken this session, just before the battery went dead. I had no board to go in so I took the opportunity to shoot but with a 400mm without tripod…not the best way to do it pros would say, but good enough to have an idea! This is Jorge Cação a local from Peniche and surely one of the best backhand tube riders in Super T.
